Our Oysters

Oysters have been grown and fattened in the Helford River for centuries, taking advantage of the fresh water running into the creeks and the rich natural sources of plankton from the Gulf stream.

From the 1950’s to the 1980’s , before the Bonamia parasite all but decimated the European oyster stocks, Helford Oysters were world-famous and to be found in all of London’s landmark oyster bars - Wheelers of St James’s , Scotts of Mayfair and J. Sheekey, not to mention Bentley’s in Piccadilly, who famously ordered 100,000 Helford Oysters in a single week.

Our pacific oysters have an extremely high meat-to-shell ratio and since reappearing on the London market in 2007, have consistently been voted as the finest oyster in independent tasting sessions by industry professionals.
